Castle Court (Liberty Court)

Castle Court (previously known as Liberty Court) is perfectly placed for De Montfort University students, with the campus less than a five-minute walk away. And with the city centre only a few streets over, the 553 students that live here have the best of both worlds.

This means you’ll have a bathroom all to yourself, as well as a large study desk and plenty of storage space. Fancy some evening entertainment? De Montfort University’s students’ union is only around the corner, or you could head to the bars, clubs and live music venues of the city centre. Just a hop, skip and a jump away, you can choose from a wide variety of restaurants and bars in the centre of town, do some shopping at exclusive local boutiques or well-known retailers.

There are two major shopping centres just 5 minutes away from the residence, so you’ll be spoilt for choice on what to buy! Choose from Highcross Leicester or St Martins Square shopping centres, offering much more than just your daily essentials.

De Montfort University and its Student Union is less than 10 minutes’ walk away from Castle Court. It hosts a variety of events during the whole of the academic year so you’ll never get bored in your spare time. The Student Union also has three bars on site; The Factory, The Lounge and Level 1. To catch a big crowd, the best nights are Wednesdays and Saturdays.

There are bars and pubs close to the residence so you don’t have to go far for a drink with friends. Just 4 minutes’ walk away you’ll have Soar Point, which is a friendly local bar open until late. Or for a wide selection of music and cocktails visit the city centre, which is packed with bars and clubs. To get a real experience of nightlife in Leicester, try a couple of the most popular nightclubs at MOSH or Republic – they’re especially loved by students.

For places to eat, the city centre is the place to be. It offers food from national chains, including; Nando’s, Café Rouge and TGI Friday’s, or alternatively you can try the independently owned restaurants with dishes from across the globe. Highcross Leicester in the city centre also offers great choices for a dining experience including Ed’s Diner, Coast to Coast, ChimiChanga’s and Bill’s to name just a few.

Also, Narborough Road is just over a 10 minute taxi ride from Castle Court and offers a vast array of restaurants and takeaways, showcasing the vast diversity of the city. For speciality Asian cuisines visit Belgrave Road; it has a range of Asian restaurants famous for their superb twist on the cuisine.

Castle Court is in a great convenient location for students from De Montfort University; you can literally roll out of bed and walk there in less than 5 minutes. Students studying at the University of Leicester can also get to campus in 20 minutes by bus.

If you enjoy visiting historical and iconic places in the city, you’ll be interested to know that Leicester Cathedral is only 5 minutes’ walk away from Castle Court. In less than 15 minutes, you can also get to the New Walk Museum & Art Gallery. You’ll even be able to explore other museums in the city such as the Guildhall Museum, Jewry Wall Museum, and the University of Leicester Botanic Garden.

Leicester offers some great cultural festivals every year such as the Caribbean Carnival Festival. The Comedy Festival is also good fun, so there will be lots of entertainment both indoors and outdoors – perfect for the unpredictable British weather!

Highcross Leicester has many shops, restaurants and bars on offer including three department stores; House of Fraser, John Lewis, and Debenhams. It’s only 5 minutes’ walk from Castle Court, and will mean there’s always loads of stuff for you to see and do.

For some independent shops and boutiques, Leicester is home to St Martin’s Square and Silver Street which offer individual and quaint gift shops – perfect if you’re looking for something unique.

Western Park is the ideal place to relax and unwind after lectures and studying. It’s only a 10 minute taxi ride away from Castle Court and it offers a wide selection of activities to choose from including a woodland walk, tennis court, a cycle trail and day events throughout the year – especially nice on those sunny days of summer!

At Castle Court, you’re in an ideal location for getting fit and active. You’ll be steps away from Castle Hill Park, which is right next to the river; so you can enjoy great views when you’re going for long walks or doing some jogging in your study-free time.

If you’re looking for a gym with all the latest equipment, visit The Gym Group in Leicester’s Shopping Centre, which is only 10 minutes’ walk away from the residence. It’s a 24-hour gym so you can go any time that suits you (which is perfect for that hectic student lifestyle)!

De Montfort University has a leisure centre for its students, so you’ll have access to their range of facilities including a swimming pool, climbing wall, dance studio, gym area and a sauna – what more could you want?!

Professional sport fans can watch high profile teams such as the Leicester City Football Club, Leicestershire County Cricket Club and the Leicester Tigers Rugby Club. They’re all based in the city, so you’ll be close to the action whenever you want to take a break from studying.

Castle Court is located on Castle Street, just a 3 minute walk to De Montfort University, and a 5 minute walk to the lively city centre.

You can quickly reach other popular UK destinations from Leicester train station, which is a 10 minute drive from Castle Court. So, if you wanted to take a trip to the bright lights of London, it will take you around an hour and 10 minutes.

Bus services in Leicester are cheap and reliable. Your nearest bus stop is a short 2 minute walk from the residence and here you can catch 15 different buses to common routes.

Some useful bus services in the area include the 13, 18, 19, 20, 48 and 50/104 to the city centre.

The nearest airports for students travelling abroad are East Midlands Airport and Birmingham Airport, both airports are around half an hour away by taxi from the residence and offer flights to Europe and beyond.

Taxi services in the area are cheap and reliable, so getting home after a night out can be done safely and securely.

At Castle Court you’ll be in the perfect location for getting all your essentials from shops on the High Street or from larger supermarkets. There’s a Tesco superstore just a 2 minute drive away or 7 minutes’ walk. Sainsbury’s is under 15 minutes’ walk away on Humberstone Gate; here you’ll find lots of other retailers and local food shops.

If you don’t feel like cooking, you can also choose from the variety of restaurants in the city centre including Nando’s, Subway, Pizza Express plus many more.

If you fancy a night in front of the big screen, head to Highcross Leicester which offers a 12 screen Cinema De Lux, or there’s a Cineworld on Aylestone Road which is a 20 minute walk or 7 minute taxi ride away from the residence.

Banks, Bureau de Change and a Post Office can all be accessed in the city centre, so you’ll have everything you need at only a short walk away from your accommodation.

For a quiet place to study, you’ll have the University of Leicester and De Montfort University close by – both have libraries on campus with all the necessary resources for your course.

De Montfort University has a surgery dedicated to its students and it’s at the University – just 8 minutes’ walk away from the residence.

For any emergencies you can access the Leicester Royal Infirmary on Walnut Street, which has an A&E and a walk-in centre, so you can get medical assistance without booking an appointment in advance. It takes less than a 10 minute walk from the residence should you need any urgent medical assistance.
