Clodien House (Liberty House)

Studying at Cardiff University or Cardiff Metropolitan University? The 380 rooms at Clodien House (previously Liberty House) are reserved exclusively for you. Being less than 30-minutes away from both universities on foot, it’s an ideal place to call home.

Living here gives you the choice of an en-suite room or a studio. No matter which one you choose, you’ll have your own bathroom. Want to socialise? An en-suite room is a great option, as you’ll be sharing a fully-fitted kitchen and living space with your flatmates. If you like your own independence, a studio allows you to have a kitchen and seating area all to yourself.

Outside of your flat, you’ll find even more space to socialise. The Playstation area gives you the chance to test yourself against your friends and neighbours, while an outdoor courtyard is great for relaxing in the sun.

Head just one mile to the east of Clodien House and you’ll stumble upon the beautiful Roath Park, with a lovely lake and spacious green areas. It’s the perfect spot for an afternoon of relaxation. Just 15 minutes away, you’ll also find the neighbourhood of Cathays, with its range of bars, pubs and restaurants catering to the students that flock to these vibrant streets.

Located within the heart of Cardiff’s university district, Clodien House is situated in the popular Heath area where there are many local restaurants, pubs and cafes. Whitchurch Road, which is literally a few minutes away by car, offers students a range of places to eat including Tuck-in Baguette and Cocorico Patisserie which are popular amongst students.

If you are looking for a meal to suit your student budget, a 15 minute walk from the residence will take you to the city centre where an abundance of restaurants can be found. Roath and Cathays student areas are dominated by independent restaurants and takeaways, and offer the best prices for students around – with those all-important generous portions, too!

The Heath pub has regular quiz and music nights for students and is only a 5 minute walk from Clodien House. Additionally, located in Cathays and Roath are an array of student pubs and bars, all only a 15 minute walk from the residence. Also in the area are The Woodville and Gassy Jacks nightspots which are busy amongst students, Mondays and Thursdays are popular with special offers and promotions available.

Clodien House is situated on Clodien Avenue, which is a 10 minute walk from Cardiff University and a 15 minute walk from Cardiff Metropolitan University, so you’re not far away!

Clodien House is located next to Roath Park which includes a large playground, floral displays, glasshouse conservatory, a lake for fishing and rowing and a recreational area to relax outside of lectures and seminars. Here you can rent out a pedalo or a boat for a small fee and enjoy the surrounding scenery whilst watching the world go by, particularly in the summer months. It’s the perfect place to relax with your Liberty Living flatmates.

Llandaff village is a 10 minute walk  from Clodien House. It has a Cathedral and some quaint independent cafés and shops which are well worth a visit.

National Museum Cardiff is located on Cathays Square in the city centre and displays Cardiff’s natural history as well as art collections from over 500 years ago! Whilst visiting the Museum, Cardiff Castle and its grounds are also close by – it’s a must see.

Cardiff Bay is a 20 minute bus ride from the residence and is where the modern Welsh Millennium Centre is located. The bay also offers boat rides to and from the city centre for a small fare.

If you fancy something different, Cardiff’s New Theatre hosts all kinds of live performances and even features some celebrity faces. Cardiff also has plenty of cinemas including Odeon and Cineworld so you’ll never miss out on the latest blockbusters, all just a 10 minute bus ride from your student accommodation.

Cardiff is home to  the Cardiff Blues Rugby team and The Welsh National Rugby team. Both of their stadiums are located in the city centre so you will never be far away from the action!

The Principality Stadium has held many sporting events, including some Olympic Football games in 2012. The Autumn Internationals and six nations are also held in the stadium and bring an exciting buzz to the city on match day.

Llandaff Inclusion Fitness Centre is located at Llandaff campus which is just a 10 minute walk from Clodien House. The fitness centre is open to all students, staff and the local community, all available for a reasonable membership fee. Inside you will find the latest training equipment and a range of classes to suit your every need.

The city centre offers a wider selection of fitness centres such as Vitality Gym which is located on Park Place, as well as easyGym on Queen Street. Both of these modern facilities offer great student discounts and have tons of fitness equipment to get you into shape.

Football fans can rejoice! Cardiff City FC, locally known as the Cardiff Bluebirds, play at the Cardiff City Stadium. You’re never too far from an exciting day out as it’s just 13 minutes from Clodien House by car.

Clodien House is located just outside Cardiff city centre and benefits from excellent transport links by both bus and train.

Bus services operate just outside the residence and run frequently to and from the city centre. The U1 and U2 are the University bus services run to Cardiff University and Cardiff Metropolitan University’s campuses, both Cyncoed and Llandaf, all day Monday-Friday.

Cardiff Central train station is located within the city centre which is around a 25 minute walk, or a 10 minute bus ride from Clodien House. Cathays also has a train station, and offers a quick link to and from the city centre and Cardiff Bay. Cardiff Airport is located just outside the city centre, and can be easily reached by bus or train. 

Taxi services to and from Clodien House are quick, inexpensive and reliable, making getting home after a night out in the bright lights of Cardiff easy as pie.

There are many major supermarkets within easy walking distance of Clodien House, these include: Lidl on Cathays Terrace, Co-operative on Crwys Road, and Tesco-Extra on Western Avenue. There is also a large Asda supermarket in Coryton and a large Sainsbury’s on Colchester Avenue, which can be easily reached by a short bus or taxi ride from our student accommodation.

Lloyds Bank, Barclays, Santander, HSBC, Natwest and Halifax banks can be found in the city centre, just a 10 minute bus ride from the residence. Whitchurch and Crwys Road have several cash points, launderettes, and takeaways perfect for any last minute purchases, all just 5 minutes from Clodien House.

Llandaf campus is a short walk from the residence and offers a Starbucks, Costa Coffee as well as a general convenience shop. The campus also has a Santander bank on-site, plus a Library and computer room which is open until late in the evening – conveniently located for some late night studying. The University Hospital of Wales also opens during the day and has an on-site bank, Starbucks and a canteen.

Additionally, Cathays Library is a short distance away from Clodien House and is open 9am-7pm.

If you are looking for food, Cardiff city centre has an array of restaurants to choose from such as Nando’s, Pizza Express, Bill’s, Cosy Club and TGI Friday’s, plus many more. You’re not going to go hungry when you stay with us!

The city centre is also home to hundreds of high street shops and St David’s which is an indoor shopping mall. With over 120 big brand names you’ll never be stuck for something to wear.

Cardiff’s many universities offer free advice on finances, careers and student welfare, and they can offer any other kind of help and assistance you might be looking for.

Clodien House is located next to the University Hospital of Wales. The hospital has a walk-in service, and an emergency dentist. Roath Clinic is also a 20 minute walk from the residence. They offer confidential sexual health and family planning services to everyone, without an appointment being needed.

There are a number of Pharmacies  within walking distance of Clodien House, located on Woodville Road, Crwys Road and North Road. Additionally, there are a number of dentists in the local area which can be reached by foot; they are located on Whitchurch Road and Cathays Terrace.

The location of Clodien House means you will never be far from the help you may need. The Management Team are always there to help and can offer you advice on local doctors and dentists when you arrive. If there’s anything else at all that you need they’ll be right there to offer it, any time you’d like.
