Moorfield provides a home for 416 students in the centre of the city. Previously known as Liberty Gardens, it’s just a mile from both the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University, while SAE Liverpool is just five minutes away by foot.

In the heart of the city, just 10 minutes away by foot, you’ll find hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants. Want a bit of culture? Liverpool’s World Museum, Central Library and the new Avril Robarts Library can be reached within minutes and are impressive places to spend an afternoon. If you fancy some evening entertainment, the popular and vibrant Ropewalks area is the place to be.
Social Scene
At Moorfield you’ll be in the heart of Liverpool’s University district and only a 3 minute walk from the city centre. The residence is well-located and is only a short distance from local amenities, bars and restaurants to suit all cultures and tastes – so you’ll always have options of things to see and do.
A popular spot for students is Concert Square in the city centre. It has a lively vibe with a selection of bars to choose from, including Revolution, The Krazyhouse – a 3-floor nightclub playing a mix of all genres but famous for rock – and a Walkabout. Another popular area for students is Matthew Street, which is home to the The Cavern Club where the world famous group, The Beatles, refined their skills.
The historic yet contemporary Albert Dock is a key attraction in Liverpool. You can get there by foot in 20 minutes from Moorfield. At the dock you can enjoy international art, award-winning museums, bars and restaurants alongside the waterfront plus lots of other attractions. So, if you’re looking to dress up for a fancy night out and classy places to have a drink, this is the place to be!
If you’re looking for a place to eat, food lovers will be spoilt for choice. Pick from Almost Famous, San Carlo, Yard Bird and the elegant Art School restaurant, depending on the kind of dinner you’re picturing.
What's Around
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) Campus buildings are located across the city and are conveniently close to Moorfield, so you won’t have far to travel. You can also get to LJMU’s Mount Pleasant Campus in 15 minutes on the bus. If you’re studying at the University of Liverpool, the main Campus buildings are a 17 minute bus ride away, or around 23 minutes on foot.
At Moorfield you are next to the city centre with many local attractions all at walking distance including the World Museum, which is just 6 minutes away on foot. You’ve also got the Walker Art Gallery, which is 8 minutes away. Of course, no stay in Liverpool is complete without seeing The Tate gallery, which you can get to in just 21 minutes. Avid readers will enjoy their brisk 8 minutes’ walk to the Central Library if their University library just isn’t ticking the boxes, and the St. John’s Shopping Centre is really handy at just 9 minutes away if you’re walking.
Liverpool’s many shopping centres cater to all your needs, with many high street names and independent boutiques available. The Liverpool One shopping centre is only a 10 minute walk away and it includes an Odeon Imax Cinema, plenty of food options, a Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf experience, plus much more. There’s also the traditional Clayton Square and the up-market Met Quarter.
If you enjoy the theatre, you are only an 8 minute walk from both Liverpool Empire Theatre and The Royal Court Theatre, and you get discounted tickets to watch their concerts, shows and comedy acts.
Make sure you don’t miss the famous Beatles Story which is an exhibition devoted to the fabulous lives and times of you guessed it – The Beatles. There’s also the International Beatleweek Festival held in August, with entertainment such as live gigs, exhibitions, sightseeing tours and memorabilia sales. You can’t come to Liverpool and not soak up their culture, after all!
Staying Active
You can benefit from free membership to Lifestyles gyms across the city in your first year if you are a student at LJMU. At Moorfield your nearest Lifestyles gym is at Millenium, which you can walk to in only 4 minutes. Lifestyles gyms have spaces to do many kinds of sports and activities such as swimming, football and badminton.
Of course, not everyone will be at LJMU, and even if you are, it’s so nice to have a choice! You’ll find extensive sports facilities at the University of Liverpool, too, as well as several gyms across the city. The Gym is a popular chain, partly in thanks to the fact that you can access it 24 hours a day and the fact it’s student budget-friendly. Your nearest is just a 16 minute walk away from you.
If you enjoy your professional sports, Liverpool FC and Everton FC are only a 20 minute bus ride away from Liverpool’s city centre. You can purchase tickets for match days and tours of the stadiums at Anfield for Liverpool or at Goodison Park for Everton. You can also enjoy a great football match by purchasing tickets for lower league football. Simply take a ferry across the Mersey to watch Tranmere Rovers FC – it’s a bit cheaper and the atmosphere is just as good.
There’s something for everyone to do in Liverpool, you can even visit the Wavertree Athletics Centre and the Liverpool Aquatics Centre, which are located in the Wavertree Sports Park. Golf is another sport you can enjoy by taking a short trip across the water to nearby Hoylake, the home of the Open Championship at The Royal Liverpool Golf Club. For a more laid-back golfing experience, try the Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf mini-golf course in Liverpool One.
Travel and Transport
Your new home is within close reach of some great transport links, so you can easily travel around the city and beyond. Your nearest station to Moorfield is Moorfields railway station, which is only a 5 minute walk away.
Alternatively, you also have Liverpool Lime Street railway station, located a 10 minute walk away from the residence, which you can use to travel to local and national destinations across the UK. Visit nearby cities such as Chester and Manchester, which will take around 45 minutes by train. Or, if you fancy venturing on out a little further, in just an hour and a half you can reach Blackpool, which is well known for its fun attractions.
Bus services stop right at your doorstep, with the nearest bus stop just next to the residence adjacent to Tithebarn Street. You can easily travel around the local area by using buses such as: 473, 892, x2, 55, 56, 20, 47, 52 and the 52a. Or, if you want a nice weekend break to explore nearby cities, Liverpool is also on the routes of the Megabus and National Express so you can get cheap tickets to other cities.
Liverpool also has its very own airport, so it’s ideal for international students and those wanting to travel abroad. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is easy to get to, with bus and train services running regularly between the airport and the city centre.
Local Amenities
When you stay at Moorfield you’ll have many supermarkets just a short walk away and they are all served by local buses, making it easy for you to do your grocery shopping. Supermarkets that are local to the residence include; Tesco in Liverpool One shopping centre and Sainsbury’s on Edmund Street. No student can pass up a bargain, so you’ll be pleased to know that you can find a Lidl just a 9 minute’ walk from your new home!
If you love keeping up with the latest styles in fashion, you have lots of brands to choose from at the Liverpool One shopping centre, which is only a 10 minute walk from the residence.
Need to study, like yesterday? If you’re a student at LJMU, Moorfield is a great choice as you’ll have their Avril Robarts Library right on your doorstep. If you want somewhere different to study other than your University’s facilities, your nearest library to the residence is Liverpool Central Library. It’s an 8 minute walk away, and it opens Monday to Saturday.
The nearest banks to Moorfield are Natwest on South John Street, HSBC and Santander, both located on Lord Street and Lloyds TSB on Church Street. Or, you can visit WHSmith’s in Liverpool One, which provides a Post Office and a Bureau de Change service.
Your Wellbeing
Your University will be able to offer free advice on issues relating to your welfare, finances or finding employment, along with helping you out with any other questions you might have.
There’s an NHS GP practice nearby called Brownlow Health, which provides general medical and student health services in the city centre area. Some of their practices are within the University of Liverpool buildings. If you haven’t made an appointment with the GP and need medical assistance you can use the walk-in centre on David Lewis Street; it’s really easy to do and you shouldn’t be waiting too long. You will also find many pharmacies in the local area, such as Lloyds located on Prospect Place.
In case of an emergency, you can reach the Accident and Emergency department in the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in 17 minutes by bus or 7 minutes by taxi. Hopefully you won’t need to go there, but it’s always good to know about! Sexual health services can be found in a variety of places, but the hospital has an all-purpose GUM clinic located inside it, too. Next to The Royal, you also have the University Dental Hospital if you ever need it.
