An external courtyard gives you the space to socialise with your neighbours outdoors, or you could go further afield with a visit to Blackweir Fields and Bute Park, both just under a mile away. Here, it’s easy to feel like you’re not in a city at all, with green fields and woodland stretching along the River Taff.

Looking for something a little more lively? The streets of Cathays, a popular student neighbourhood, are home to a range of pubs and restaurants, while the city centre is full of places to enjoy a drink or bite to eat. Being only a mile away, it really is easy to make the most of this incredible city.

Located close to Cardiff’s University district, Severn Point is situated on Llys Y Gored Ddu (off Blackweir Terrace) where there is a good selection of pubs, bars and restaurants close by.

Local to the residence are two student pubs; Blackweir Tavern and The North Star. Blackweir Tavern is a cheap and cheerful pub with meals being served for less than £10. The North Star is popular amongst students, it’s pretty quirky, and there’s great quality food and drink. Also, the Uni Kitchen is just a few yards from Severn Point and is run by students; it offers high quality and tasty food, catering for your taste and budget.

A further 10 minute walk away you’ll find yourself in the student area of Cathays where there are many student pubs, bars, restaurants and takeaways to be found. The Woodville and Gassy Jacks are popular nightspots amongst students and have loads of sweet deals throughout the week. Restaurants include Daiquiri’s, Lilos Grill House, Mina, Cafe 37, and KoKo Gorilaz, so there’s bound to be something to suit everyone in your student accommodation.

Cardiff Student Union is a less than a 10 minute walk from Severn Point and hosts a range of nights for students. A popular night held each month is Treatment, Cardiff’s answer to The Warehouse Project, where a range of local and famous DJ’s have performed. The city centre is only a 10 minute bus ride or 20 minute walk from the residence where you can enjoy the hundreds of shops on offer. Principality Stadium is a spectacular central attraction and it’s definitely worth a visit, especially during a match day.

The New Theatre is within walking distance from Severn Point and hosts a variety of shows and plays throughout the year, featuring some well-known celebrity faces. There are lots of other theatres too, including Sherman Cymru  plus many more. If the cinema is more your thing, for the latest blockbusters there are plenty of Odeon and Cineworld cinemas brands dotted throughout the city for the latest releases as well.

Staying Active
For the sports fanatics, the local gym closest to Severn Point is Maindy Fitness Centre, offering a fully equipped gym with various fitness machines. The Fitness Centre also holds a range of different classes, such as Spin, Zumba, Yoga or Aerobics. They also have a swimming pool and a 470m cycle track which anyone can use to get themselves fighting fit.

The city centre offers a wider selection of fitness centres such as Vitality Gym which is located on Park Place, as well as Easy Gym on Queen Street – both offer great student discounts and have a wide selection of fitness equipment.

If you like running, Park Run is a 5k fun run takes place every Saturday morning at 9am, starting at The Taff Trailnext to Tesco on Western Avenue. It’s only a 5 minute walk from Severn Point, so getting up early isn’t too much of a problem!

Cardiff is home to the Welsh National Rugby team, the six nations and the Autumn Internationals, which are all held in Millennium Stadium, bringing an exciting buzz to the city on match day. If you get chance to watch a game, you will not be disappointed.
