Want to escape your flat and enjoy the sunshine? An external courtyard gives you the space to socialise with your neighbours outdoors, or you could go further afield with a visit to Blackweir Fields and Bute Park, both just under a mile away. Here, it’s easy to feel like you’re not in a city at all, with green fields and woodland stretching along the River Taff.

Looking for something a little more lively? The streets of Cathays, a popular student neighbourhood, are home to a range of pubs and restaurants, while the city centre is full of places to enjoy a drink or bite to eat. Being only a mile away, it really is easy to make the most of this incredible city.

Located close to Cardiff’s University district, Severn Point is situated on Llys Y Gored Ddu (off Blackweir Terrace) where there is a good selection of pubs, bars and restaurants close by.

Local to the residence are two student pubs; Blackweir Tavern and The North Star. Blackweir Tavern is a cheap and cheerful pub with meals being served for less than £10. The North Star is popular amongst students, it’s pretty quirky, and there’s great quality food and drink. Also, the Uni Kitchen is just a few yards from Severn Point and is run by students; it offers high quality and tasty food, catering for your taste and budget.

A further 10 minute walk away you’ll find yourself in the student area of Cathays where there are many student pubs, bars, restaurants and takeaways to be found. The Woodville and Gassy Jacks are popular nightspots amongst students and have loads of sweet deals throughout the week. Restaurants include Daiquiri’s, Lilos Grill House, Mina, Cafe 37, and KoKo Gorilaz, so there’s bound to be something to suit everyone in your student accommodation.

Cardiff Student Union is a less than a 10 minute walk from Severn Point and hosts a range of nights for students. A popular night held each month is Treatment, Cardiff’s answer to The Warehouse Project, where a range of local and famous DJ’s have performed. Gorgon City, Annie Mac, Second City, Eats Everything and Disclosure to name but a few acts have all performed here and really raised the roof.

Severn Point is ideally located just a 10 minute walk from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Dramaand Cardiff’s other universities are also within easy reach.

Local to the residence is National Museum Cardiff with its art gallery which displays some of the finest art collections from over 500 years ago. The Museum also shows the natural history of Wales as well as taking you through a journey of the Evolution of Wales, from the beginning to the present day.

Cardiff Castle is only a short walk from Severn Point, and it’s surrounded by Bute Park. It is a popular place for students to take a break in-between lectures and seminars and enjoy the beautiful scenery on offer. Perfect for a sunny, summer afternoon!

The city centre is only a 10 minute bus ride or 20 minute walk from the residence where you can enjoy the hundreds of shops on offer. Principality Stadium is a spectacular central attraction and it’s definitely worth a visit, especially during a match day.

The New Theatre is within walking distance from Severn Point and hosts a variety of shows and plays throughout the year, featuring some well-known celebrity faces. There are lots of other theatres too, including Sherman Cymru  plus many more. If the cinema is more your thing, for the latest blockbusters there are plenty of Odeon and Cineworld cinemas brands dotted throughout the city for the latest releases as well.

For the sports fanatics, the local gym closest to Severn Point is Maindy Fitness Centre, offering a fully equipped gym with various fitness machines. The Fitness Centre also holds a range of different classes, such as Spin, Zumba, Yoga or Aerobics. They also have a swimming pool and a 470m cycle track which anyone can use to get themselves fighting fit.

The city centre offers a wider selection of fitness centres such as Vitality Gym which is located on Park Place, as well as Easy Gym on Queen Street – both offer great student discounts and have a wide selection of fitness equipment.

If you like running, Park Run is a 5k fun run takes place every Saturday morning at 9am, starting at The Taff Trailnext to Tesco on Western Avenue. It’s only a 5 minute walk from Severn Point, so getting up early isn’t too much of a problem!

Cardiff is home to the Welsh National Rugby team, the six nations and the Autumn Internationals, which are all held in Millennium Stadium, bringing an exciting buzz to the city on match day. If you get chance to watch a game, you will not be disappointed.

Additionally, a 15 minute bus ride to Cardiff Bay you will find Cardiff Arena – home to Cardiff’s Ice Hockey Team. For football fans, you’re not going to feel left out – Cardiff City FC,  known as the Cardiff Bluebirds, play at the Cardiff City Stadium, and it’s just over ten minutes away from your student accommodation by car.

Severn Point is close to excellent transport links via bus or train, allowing you to visit the city centre and surrounding areas with ease. The local bus services run frequently from outside the residence, and are fairly priced.

Cathay’s train station is just around the corner from Severn Point and goes straight to the centre of Cardiff and beyond, making it an easy way to get to and from town.

Additionally, Cardiff Airport is based just outside the centre and is accessible by train or bus if you are travelling further afield. If you want to go into London, it’s just over two hours away, and Cardiff Central station is just 15 minutes away on public transport, or a brisk half an hours walk.

Taxi services to and from the residence are well priced and reliable, so you can get home after an evening out in the city centre in a flash.

A Tesco Express is located next to Severn Point, perfect for all of your essential items. Plus, there are numerous other supermarkets located a 10 minute walk from the residence, including a Sainsbury’s on Woodville Road and a Co-operative on Crwys Road. There is a larger Tesco Extra Supermarket located on Western Avenue, which is just a 5 minute bus ride away. Additionally, North Road also has a general convenience store and a petrol station. You have everything you could possibly need right on the doorstep of the residence!

There is a library located in the Cathays’ area, which is within walking distance from Severn Point. All major high street banks can be found in the city centre on Queens Street, less than a 20 minute walk away. The city centre also has a large post office and bureau de change services.

If you are looking for some tasty treats, Cardiff city centre has an array of restaurants to choose from such as Nando’s, Pizza Express, Bill’s, Cosy Club and TGI Friday’s, plus many more. You’ll never be stuck for options or left hungry.

The city centre is also home to hundreds of high street shops and St David’s which is an indoor shopping mall. It now boasts over 120 big name brands so you’ll never have the excuse of having nothing to wear!

Cardiff’s many universities offer free advice on careers, financial worries, student welfare or anything else which you may need help with.

Severn Point is near to the University Hospital of Wales and the hospital has a walk-in service, an emergency dentist and an A&E department. Roath Clinic is around a 10 minute bus ride from the residence, they offer sexual health and family planning services to everyone and you don’t need to worry about making an appointment.

There is also a pharmacy located minutes away from the residence on North Road.
