If you like socialising, Clarence Dock Village is a great choice for you, with 613 students calling it home. Formerly known as Liberty Dock, Clarence Dock Village is well located too, with the city centre just a 15-minute walk away. Both the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University can also be reached within 30 minutes by bus or foot.
If you like the sound of having your own bathroom, opt for one of our en-suite rooms, which come with a study desk, plenty of storage and access to a shared kitchen and living space. Non en-suite rooms, where you’ll share your bathroom with others, are also available.
Take a break from your flat and you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained at Clarence Dock Village. The on-site gym is free to use whenever you want, or you can opt to take on your neighbours at foosball in the large, comfortable common room. When the sun is shining, you can head outside to relax in the external courtyard.
Take a 15 minute walk and you’ll arrive in the city centre, where you’ll find hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants in and around Trinity Leeds, one of the main shopping centres. Also within a 15-minute walk is City Bloc, an indoor climbing centre, and Crown Point Shopping Park, with stores including TK Maxx, a Nike Factory Store and Hobbycraft.
Social Scenes
Clarence Dock Village (formerly Liberty Dock) is located a 10 minute walk away from the busy city centre of Leeds. It also boasts amazing transport links to The University of Leeds, so you have no excuses not to get to class on time! There is an enormous range of social activities close by to take part in, day or night.
If you get peckish and aren’t in the mood to cook, why not take a stroll along to Pizza Express a few moments away from the accommodation. There is also a Café Bar if you fancy a quick coffee or a catch up with friends after lectures.
The city centre is around a 10 minute walk from Liberty Dock, and has an assortment of national chain restaurants, such as Nando’s, Wagamama, Cafe Rouge, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Bella Italia.
In regards to nightlife, there is literally something for everyone. Leeds not only has the usual big name bars and nightclubs found in most big cities, but it also hosts some awesome locally owned independent bars and clubs.
Call Lane and Albion Street are extremely popular with students and have a range of bars to take advantage of throughout the week with some favourites being Revolution, Norman Bar, Jake's Bar, Tiger Tiger, Bar Chick, Yates’s, and The Backroom Leeds. If you don’t fancy going far, why not have a drink at Liberty Dock, the bar on site is located in the common room and is perfect for socialising with friends in the evenings.
Some of Leeds’ most popular nightclubs include Space, Mission, HiFi and Key Club, all of which can be found within the city centre where there is an event on every night of the week.
What's Around
Liberty Dock is located on Clarence Road, 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre of Leeds and the Universities and Colleges. There is plenty to see and do to keep you entertained during your time here.
Liberty Dock is best suited for students studying at University of Leeds, however it can also accommodate students at Leeds College of Music and even Leeds Beckett University. Buses to Leeds University are frequent and come basically right to your door, and Leeds College of Music can be reached on foot within 15 minutes.
For a fun day out with all your friends, why not visit Pole Position Indoor Karting – 5 minutes’ walk from Liberty Dock. They have an indoor go-karting arena, so it’s great for those with a competitive side.
Clarence Dock host various events throughout the year to keep you entertained, including Street Food, Vintage Markets and even Dragon Boat Racing.
Leeds has superb shopping facilities, with various shopping malls, such as Trinity Leeds and The Corn Exchange as well as hundreds of vintage boutiques. There are also a range of designer and high street shops in the city centre, and you don’t even have to go far to find them. In just a 10 minute walk from Liberty Dock, you’ll be at the heart of the retail action.
If you like the outdoors and relaxing outside of lectures, visit Roundhay Park; one of the biggest parks in Europe – just a 20 minute bus ride away.
If you like history or you’re a bit of a film buff, why not visit The Hyde Park Picture House; Leeds’ 101 year old purpose built cinema. It is the only gas-lit cinema remaining in the UK, and is bursting full of history inside. Good news – it’s just 20 minutes away by bus.
If art is your thing, visit Leeds Art Gallery which houses the Henry Moore Centre for the Study of Sculpture – 10 minutes from Liberty Dock. Alternatively, why not see what one of Leeds’ Museums has to offer? The Abbey House Museum, the Royal Armouries, and Leeds City Museum are located just 15 minutes from the property, so it’s the perfect excuse for some extra-curricular education.
Staying Active
If you like to keep fit, there is a gym onsite at Liberty Dock and it is open 7 days a week from 8am-9pm. Alternatively there is a Prima Gym located a few minutes’ walk away which has a relatively cheap membership.
Sport fans will be pleased to know that Leeds United Football Club play at Elland Road – 5 minutes away in a taxi. Yorkshire Country Cricket Club and Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club are a 10 minute taxi ride away at Headingley.
If walking and the outdoors is your thing, you should take full advantage of the Yorkshire Dales and go explore the beautiful scenic surroundings. You’ll get to take in some truly gorgeous sights, with the added bonus of staying active whilst you do it.
There are more than 100 tennis courts in the parks around the city, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and cricket and rugby pitches to enjoy – there’s no time to be lazy in a city like Leeds!
Travel and Transport
Liberty Dock is located a short distance from the city centre, it is also within easy reach of all local amenities and transport links, including Leeds railway station. Buses to the University of Leeds can be found directly outside the gates.
The bus system in the city provides an affordable and reliable service, with a Metro card available to students. The bus stop nearest the property is located just outside the gates at Liberty Dock. Some useful numbers that run past the stop include;
Number 28 - Liberty Dock to Adel, stops at the bus station, city centre and Leeds University Campus (Every 20/30 minutes)
Number 70 – Liberty Dock to the train station (Every 10 minutes)
Leeds main train station is located in the city centre – a ten minute bus ride from Liberty Dock. London can be reached in 2 hours 20 minutes, Newcastle in 1 hour 30 minutes and Manchester in less than an hour.
For those who live outside of the UK, Leeds has its own airport 30 minutes away in a taxi – Leeds Bradford Airport. The airport provides a range of widespread routes across the rest of the UK, Europe and Internationally.
Alternatively, if you want to skip buses and trains, why not hop on a bike and explore Leeds? There are absolutely loads of cycle lanes around thanks to the Tour de France starting in Leeds in 2014.
Taxis are also reliable and cheap in Leeds and are commonly used by students.
Local Amenities
Liberty Dock is located around a large range of amenities; all within walking distance, so keeping your cupboards filled can be done hassle free.
There is a Tesco express located a few moments from Liberty Dock for all your essential items. For more selection, there is a large Morrison’s supermarket – a 5 minute drive from the property.
Additionally, Crown Point Shopping Park is a 10 minute walk from the accommodation where you will find a range of shops, restaurants, takeaways and cash points.
Both, Leeds University and Leeds College of Music have library facilities on site, to help guide you throughout your time studying.
Nearly all banks can be found in the city centre of Leeds – 10 minutes’ walk from the accommodation, these include; HSBC, NatWest, Barclay’s, Santander and more. Finally, useful things like the Post Office and Bureau De Change can also be located in the city centre.
Wellbeing
You will be able to receive free confidential advice regarding finances, careers and general welfare when studying at any of Leeds universities. Liberty Dock is located close to campus so you will never be too far from the help you may need.
The nearest GP Surgery to the residence is Leeds Student Medical Practice on Blenheim Court – 10 minutes’ taxi ride from Liberty Dock. Alternatively, Shakespeare Medical Practice is a walk in centre, where you do not require an appointment. The centre is located on Cromwell Mount and is also 10 minutes in a taxi. You can also get free, confidential sexual health advice and treatment from a range of sources.
For any emergencies, Leeds General Infirmary Hospital is a 10 minute drive or 30 minute walk from the property should you need any urgent medical assistance. Of course, if anything is really serious, you’d need to call for an ambulance.
