North Court (Liberty Court)

Previously known as Liberty Court, North Court is home to 253 students and, being just a short bus ride from both Cardiff Metropolitan University campuses and the city centre, it’s perfectly located for student life.

Studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University? All of North Court’s en-suite rooms are reserved exclusively for you. They come with a bed, a study desk and plenty of storage space. You’ll have access to a shared kitchen and living space, which is ideal for relaxing with your flatmates. Want a little more privacy? Our studio flats allow you to have a kitchen and living space all to yourself. Away from your flat, you’ll find communal areas that include an outside courtyard and a Playstation zone, which is an ideal place to relax with your friends.

Jump on a bus and you’ll be in Cardiff city centre within 10 minutes. Here, you’ll find all the bars, restaurants and shops you could want. Looking for some entertainment? Nightclubs such as Tiger Tiger and Walkabout are ideal if you’re in the mood to party, while the Motorpoint Arena is great for live music.

Located within the heart of Cardiff’s University district, North Court is situated just a 10 minute bus ride from Cardiff city centre. The residence benefits from having a wide variety of local amenities, bars, pubs and restaurants all within easy walking distance.

Three Horse Shoes and The Aneurin Bevan are great pubs located right on the doorstep of North Court, offering great student discounts on drinks and food. The Heath is another regular for students and hosts weekly karaoke, pub quiz & music nights – perfect for a cheap night out!

If you’re not in the mood to cook or just fancy a little treat, Whitchurch Road has a variety of restaurants to suits all tastes including; Thai, Indian and English cuisines, and is only a 10 minute walk from North Court. Restaurants include Cafe 37 and Daiquiri’s, which are independently run and very popular with students. Alternatively, Western Avenue offers some fast food options including a McDonald’s and a KFC a 5 minute walk from the residence.

The Cathays and Roath student areas are a short distance from North Court and offer some of the best nightlife in town. Gassy Jacks and The Woodville are popular nightspots amongst students, with special offers and promotions available on selected nights.

Cardiff Student Union is a short taxi ride from North Court and hosts a range of nights for students. A popular night held each month is Treatment, Cardiff’s answer to The Warehouse Project where a range of famous and local DJs perform. Acts which have visited the venue include: Gorgon City, Eats Everything, Disclosure, Annie Mac, Second City plus many more.

North Court is situated on North Road, which is a 5 minute bus ride from the city centre and a short walk from Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Llandaff Campus.

If you are looking to relax outside of your lectures and seminars, Roath Park is only a 5 minute walk away. The park is renowned for its scenic views and huge lake. You can rent out a pedalo or a boat with your flatmates, or why not have a picnic whilst watching the world go by?

Llandaff village is a 10 minute walk from North Court, and is home to the unique and impressive Llandaff Cathedral. The village also has some independent cafes and shops which are worth a visit. If you’re feeling brave, you can even try the Llandaff Ghost Walk, which will show you the ancient village whilst letting you in on some chilling secrets along the way.

National Museum Cardiff is a 10 minute bus ride from North Court and displays some of the finest art collections from over 500 years ago. The museum also shows the natural history of Wales, as well as taking you through a journey of the Evolution of Wales, from the beginning right up to the present day.

If you’re looking for a light spot of entertainment, Cardiff boasts an impressive theatre district, with New Theatre and Sherman Cymru to name just a couple on offer. You can also check out all the latest releases at the local Cineworld, which is just a 10 minute drive in a taxi, or 25 minutes by bus.

Students staying at North Court have a number of local gyms to choose from. The residence is a 5 minute walk to Maindy Fitness Centre which offers cheap membership, including a range of different classes to suit your needs: Yoga, Aerobics, Zumba and Spin to name just a few. They also have a swimming pool and a 470m cycle track available for public usage.

Llandaff Inclusion Fitness Centre is located at Llandaff campus, which is just a 10 minute walk from North Court. The fitness centre is open to students, and the local community. Everything is included and available for a reasonable membership fee, so it won’t break your bank!

If you fancy a kick about, Whitchurch have purpose built football facilities, with ten outdoor football pitches that you can rent with your flatmates for a small fee, and it’s only a 5 minute taxi ride from North Court. Alternatively, you can experience the real deal. If you’re into professional sport, Cardiff’s Principality Stadium and Cardiff City Stadium, home to Cardiff City FC, are just a 10 minute bus ride from North Court – so it’s perfect if you want to catch an entertaining game of Rugby or Football.

Like to get your running shoes on? Park Run is a 5k fun run which takes place every Saturday morning at 9am, starting at The Taff Trail next to Tesco on Western Avenue. It’s only five minutes’ walk from the residence, so you’ve got no excuses!

North Court benefits from great transport links, and there are regular bus services which take you into Cardiff city centre and the city’s many University campuses. The U1 and U2 are the University bus services, and run to Cardiff Metropolitan University’s Llandaff and Cyncoed campuses all day, Monday-Friday. Bus Services also run frequently in and out of the city centre.

Some useful bus routes for  North Court include:

Cardiff Central rail station is located in the city centre and provides a quick link to other major cities like Bristol and Swansea, which can be reached in less than  an hour. London can also be reached with ease in just over two hours by train. Local train services also operate to the Cathays area and Cardiff Bay. If you want to pop home over the weekend to see friends and family, you’re only twenty minutes away by bus from Central Station.

Additionally, Cardiff Airport is based just outside the centre and is accessible by train or bus if you are travelling further afield. The airport provides a range of widespread routes, and can be reached in 20 minutes by car and 30 minutes by train. Taxi services to and from North Court are quick, efficient and super cheap, so getting home to your student accommodation after an evening out in the city centre is a breeze.

North Court has a selection of shops close by for your convenience. Located on Western Avenue is a Tesco Extra supermarket, which is a 5 minute walk  from the residence, selling everything you need from electrical and groceries to clothing.

Just a 5 minute walk away is Caerphilly Road, which offers various takeaways, convenience stores, and a launderette. Alternatively, Whitchurch Road is just a 10 minute walk from North Court and offers a variety of shops including a Sainsbury’s Local and Co-Operative. Whitchurch Road also has an abundance of quirky charity shops which are also worth a visit, perfect if you want to bag yourself a bargain.

If you’re looking for something different or a place to eat out, Cardiff city centre has an array of restaurants such as Nando’s, Pizza Express, Bill’s, Cosy Club and TGI Friday’s, plus many more.

The city centre is also home to hundreds of high street shops, and St David’s, an indoor shopping mall. The mall has recently been extended and now boasts more than 120 brand names, so you’ll be able to visit all of your favourites! Here you will also find a good selection of high street banks and Bureau de Change services.

North Court is located next to the University Hospital of Wales; the Hospital has a walk-in service, and an emergency dentist. Roath Clinic is around a 10 minute bus ride from the residence, too. They offer sexual health and family planning services to everyone and you don’t need an appointment, which can be great for emergencies.

The city’s many universities also offer free advice on careers, financial worries and student welfare, or anything else which you may need help with. There is also a Lloyds pharmacy located minutes away from the North Court on Whitchurch Road.

The location of North Court means you’ll never be far from the help you may need. The Management Team are always there to help and can offer you advice on local doctors and dentists when you arrive. Remember, you’re never alone!
