Don Street House (Liberty House - Don Street)

Home to 171 students in a quiet location, Don Street House (formerly Liberty House - Don Street) is just a 10-minute walk from both the University of Aberdeen and Hillhead Student Village, while the bustling city centre is only a few bus stops away.

Share your flat, bathroom, and kitchen with flatmates - or choose an en-suite room if you’d prefer a private bathroom. Rooms come furnished with a bed, study desk and ample storage space. Venture out of your flat and you’ll find an external courtyard that you can enjoy on Aberdeen’s sunnier days. Bringing your own car? You’ll be pleased to know that Don Street House has its very own car park.

Nearby Seaton Park is the perfect place to go for a long walk on a warm day, with the green fields and picturesque woods allowing you to escape from the city. Lidl is just down the road for all of your grocery needs, while the famous Granite Mile, with its 800 shops, bars and restaurants, is only 10 minutes away by bus.

Aberdeen has a very large student population, meaning that there’s busy nightlife in the city nearly every night. There are a variety of bars, clubs and restaurants to choose from, and when you stay at Don Street House you’ll never be far from the action.

For great entertainment on your doorstep, why not sample the University of Aberdeen's student union, referred to as the Students' Association? It's just 15 minutes’ walk from the residence. The Association hosts a range of themed evenings throughout the academic year, with live music and fantastic drink offers – perfect for a weekday break.

If you don’t fancy cooking, or want to eat out; King Street is a 10 minute walk from the residence and has a selection of restaurants and takeaways. There are many different cuisines to tickle everyone’s taste buds, including Manzil for traditional Indian, Sam’s Chinese, and Pizza Hut. For those with a sweet tooth, why not try Casa di Gelato for a delicious ice cream  - come rain or shine!

Alternatively, you can venture further into the city centre by bus where you will find a bigger range of well-known chain restaurants, including Nando’s, Cosmo’s World Buffet, Prezzo and Ask plus many more.

Many of Aberdeen’s pubs, clubs and bars can be found at either Union or Belmont Street, which is a 15 minute bus ride or 10 minute taxi ride away. Most of the best student deals are on Monday and Wednesday nights. Triple Kirks, Revolution, Paramount and Jam Jar are just a few of the places you can head to if you’re on a budget.

Aberdeen’s most popular student nightclubs can be found in the city centre and there are many to take your pick from. Some favourites include 42 Below (featuring Techno Electronica and House DJs), The Assembly, Exodus (for themed nights throughout the week) and Nox, the city’s newest nightclub.

The residence is located within one of the most historic areas of Aberdeen, and is surrounded by beautiful parks, gardens and buildings dating back to the medieval period. There are plenty of activities around the city to keep you amused during your free time from studying.

Just a 15 minute bus ride from the city centre; Don Street House is ideally located for students studying at the University of Aberdeen – with campus being just a 10 minute walk away.

The city centre offers a great shopping experience less than a 10 minute bus ride away. The famous Granite Mile on Union Street is home to a staggering 800 shops, bars and restaurants to keep you entertained during your weekends and free periods.

If you like to relax between lectures, take a daytime stroll through Seaton Park. The park sits nicely alongside the River Don and is a beautiful area to unwind after your studies.

Aberdeen is bursting with fantastic Art and History exhibits too. The City Art Gallery is situated a 10 minute bus ride away and has a vast collection of fine art. The Maritime Museum, Provost Skene’s House and Satrosphere hands-on Science Museum are all museums worth visiting during your time in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen has three cinemas around the city, featuring the latest blockbuster releases. If you get a chance to attend His Majesty’s Theatre, just a 10 minute bus ride away, you may be lucky enough to catch an Opera, Ballet or even a Musical. Additionally, the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and The Music Hall are venues in the city centre which host a range of musical events, so you’ll never be short of something to do.

If you are looking to keep fit, Aberdeen Sports Village ran by the University of Aberdeen is less than a 20 minute walk from the residence. The Sports Village has a selection of world class sporting facilities for everyone to enjoy, including a swimming pool, squash courts, fully equipped gym, sports hall, indoor athletics, a hockey pitch plus much more.

Sports enthusiasts are well catered to with a range of exciting activities across the city. Aberdeen has swimming pools, 11 golf courses, and the largest bowling alley in Scotland, so there’s always something exciting to get stuck into.

Professional sport lovers will be pleased to know that Aberdeen’s Premier League football team Aberdeen FCplay at Pittodrie Stadium, which is just a 20 minute walk from the residence. Make sure that you try and catch a game if you can, as the atmosphere is electric on match days!

Don Street House is within walking distance from the University of Aberdeen, and there are transport links close by. Local bus services around the city are reliable and reasonably priced, and it’s good to know that student passes are available for your benefit.

Aberdeen’s main train station is situated in the city centre – 15 minutes by car or 20 minutes by bus. Fellow Scottish cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh can be reached in less than 3 hours, and of course there is a direct rail service link to London including a sleeper service because the journey takes around 8 (!) hours. If you don’t fancy the 8 hour train to London, you can grab a flight for only £50 and be there in just over an hour.

For those who live outside of the UK, Aberdeen Airport is the city's very own and is just a 15 minute taxi ride away, which provides a range of widespread routes across the UK, Europe and other international locations. 

Additionally, coach services provide trips around the UK at competitive prices with discounts available for students.

Don Street House is located near a range of local amenities, meaning popping to the shop to for your everyday essentials can be done with ease.

King Street is less than a 10 minute walk from the residence; here you’ll find a range of local shops and amenities to keep your cupboards full. There is a Lidl supermarket – great for those of you on a budget (and let’s face it, anyone who appreciates a good bargain!), various takeaways, a post office, hairdressers and a Spar convenience store.

The nearest library to the residence is located at the University of Aberdeen, 10 minutes’ walk from the residence. It’s the biggest library in Scotland, so it’s the perfect resource to help guide you through your studies.

The city centre is a 15 minute bus ride away from Don Street House and is home to a range of high street shops, banks and small supermarkets.

You will be able to receive free advice regarding finances, careers and general welfare when studying at any of Aberdeen’s universities. Don Street House is located close to campus so you will never be too far from the help you may need. 

Old Machar Medical Practice is the nearest GP surgery to the residence; it's just a 5 minute walk away. Additionally, there is a more than one pharmacy located on Kings Street, an 8 minute walk from our student accommodation.

In case of an emergency, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary is a 10 minute taxi ride away from you. The hospital has an A&E, GUM clinic and a general surgery – but we hope you don’t ever need them!
