Studying at Coventry University? Sky Blue Point is the perfect place to call home. It’s located just a short stroll from the uni and not much further to the city centre either. If you have a car the University of Warwick is just a 15 minute drive away or under 30 minutes by bus. Coventry’s cultural quarter, FarGo, is just a few minutes’ walk away. This exciting repurposed industrial space is home to independent book and coffee shops, eateries, bars, a record store, a barbershop, a vintage emporium, and much more.
Every room at Sky Blue Point has its own bathroom, plus a study desk and plenty of storage space. On top of that, you’ll also be sharing a fully-fitted kitchen and living space with your flatmates, which makes socialising easy. Studying at Coventry University? All of these rooms are reserved exclusively for you.
Step away from your flat and you’ll discover Sky Blue Point’s communal area. Here, you can socialise with your neighbours over pool, ping pong or foosball.
Want to enjoy some downtime? Take a stroll into the city centre and you’ll find everything that a major city has to offer. Shops, bars and restaurants hide around every corner, while several nightclubs and the students’ union provide ample entertainment once the sun goes down. For the slightly more mundane task of food shopping, you’ll find a large Sainsbury’s just 15 minutes away by foot.
Social Scene
Coventry is an exciting student city to live in with plenty to do. There’s a variety of restaurants, pubs and clubs on your doorstep so you’ll never miss out on what the city has to offer.
If you don’t fancy cooking and like eating out, there are a variety of restaurants located in West Orchards Shopping Centre, featuring tasty cuisines from all over the globe – all 15 minutes’ walk from Sky Blue Point.
Located on Coventry University campus is The Hub. It’s an awesome place to meet friends, have a meal or a coffee; and enjoy the facilities on offer and it’s just a 10 minute walk from the residence. Additionally, Square One and the Student Union offer entertainment nights throughout the week, including quiz nights and live music.
The nightlife on offer in Coventry is awesome, some of the best student nightclubs include; Kasbah, Scholarsand JJ’s – all of which are within walking distance from Sky Blue Point with a different event on every night of the week.
Some of the student pubs can be found along the walk into the city centre and in the centre itself, including: The Oak, Phoenix, Castle and The Aardvark where they host Quids. Most of these pubs have special deals available most nights of the week and they attract students from both Coventry University and The University of Warwick.
What's Around
Sky Blue Point is best suited for students studying at Coventry University. The campus is less than a 10 minute walk away. The city offers many things to see and do, keeping you entertained at weekends and after lectures.
If you like to relax in between lectures, the War Memorial Park is a 5 minute drive away. It’s got a large outdoor space so it’s ideal for laying back and enjoying a spot of sunshine in the summer and relaxing with your flatmates.
Cinema lovers are spoiled for choice, the city centre is home to the Odeon, University of Warwick’s theatre and the Showcase Cinema – showing all of the latest movies. Plus, if you enjoy theatre, The Belgrade Theatre has two stages showing pantomime and musicals throughout the year.
We also recommend that you visit the Skydome in the city centre, as it has absolutely tons to do. There’s an ice skating rink, a gym, various pubs and clubs, and a Harvester restaurant to keep you entertained.
The West Orchards Shopping Centre has all the usual high street brands plus there is two shopping parks located just outside of town; Central Six and Arena Retail Park – both of which are both accessible by taking a bus from Sky Blue Point. Coventry also has a traditional market in the city centre with a variety of stalls to explore.
Feeling bored or even culturally devoid? There’s no excuse! The city has a vast amount of museums on offer. The Coventry Transport Museum has the biggest display of British Transport in the world. There’s also the Herbert Museum and Art Gallery; both museums are around a 15 minute walk from the residence.
Staying Active
There are lots of fitness centres and gyms located across the city centre. For example, you can visit PureGym for a range of classes and use of modern equipment, all for a low price. Coventry University also has a gym located on campus, available to all its students and it’s just around the corner from our student accommodation.
Coventry Sports Centre is a 10 minute walk from Sky Blue Point and offers a choice of exercise activities. The centre boasts three swimming pools, exercise classes, a fitness suite, badminton, squash and table tennis.
If you venture into the city centre you will find the Skydome; home to the Ice Hockey Team; Coventry Blaze. The team compete in the British Elite Ice Hockey League, and have won plenty of awards. The arena is a 25 minute walk from Sky Blue Point and has an incredible vibe on game days.
Travel and Transport
Sky Blue Point is located a 10 minute walk from Coventry University and from the city centre, so getting around won’t pose a problem.
Coventry train station is located a 10 minute walk from Sky Blue Point. London, the UK’s capital, can be reached in 1 hour and 15 minutes and Birmingham is less than 30 minutes away.
The city’s bus system is reliable with student discounts available. The bus station is located in the city centre and there are also plenty of cycle lanes around the city; perfect if you want more opportunities to explore or shape up.
For those living outside the UK or for people who just can’t stay put, your closest airport is Birmingham Airportwhich is just 20 minutes away from our student accommodation by taxi (but there are trains heading that way, too). The airport offers a mixture of widespread routes across the UK and internationally.
Local Amenities
Sky Blue Point is conveniently located close to a range of supermarkets, so popping to the shop to get your essentials won’t ever be a problem.
You will find a number of small supermarkets in the city centre including: Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Mark’s and Spencer’s, which are only a 10 minute walk from the residence. There is also a Cost Cutter convenience store a few minutes’ walk from the accommodation, so you can get saving those pennies.
High street banks can be found in the city centre you’ll find the usual suspects like: Halifax, Nationwide, NatWest, Lloyds, and more. Additionally, there is a Bureau de Change in the West Orchard Shopping Centre – which is a 15 minutes walk away.
Coventry University has a library on campus which has all necessary resources needed to shine in your studies.
Your Wellbeing
You will be able to receive any help you need, be it financial, emotional, medical or otherwise when studying at any of Coventry’s universities. Sky Blue Point is located close to campus so you will never be too far from the guidance you may need.
Coventry University has a Health Centre at The Hub and it’s only a 10 minute walk away. Alternatively, there is a walk-in centre on Stoney Stanton Road – around a 5 minutes’ drive from the residence.
In case of an emergency, University Hospital Coventry is a 10 minute drive from Sky Blue Point – but we hope you’ll never need it!
