Home to 562 students, Mercury Point (formerly Liberty Quays) is ideally situated to help you make the most of your time at university. Solent University is only 10 minutes away by foot, while the University of Southampton is a 40-minute bus ride away.

Decide to live here and you’ll have a choice of en-suite rooms and studios, all of which come with their own private bathrooms. If you don’t want to share a kitchen and living space with flatmates, a studio is the option for you.

Being just a few streets from the city centre, Mercury Point is an ideal base for making the most of Southampton. West Quay Shopping Centre is the place to be if you like to shop or want to dine at one of your favourite restaurant chains, while you’ll find plenty of pubs, bars and clubs scattered across the city centre and the Cultural Quarter. For something a little more chilled, head to the marina, just 10 minutes away, for a relaxing walk.

Southampton is vibrant city bursting with culture, with an exciting social scene. There are a range of different bars, restaurants and pubs in and around the city to keep you occupied in your spare time and during weekends.

Nightlife in Southampton has a great reputation, with most students visiting the well-known club Oceana; 10 minutes’ walk from Mercury Point. Other popular nightclubs include Junk and EDM; Southampton’s popular gay club.

The city centre and Oxford Street have a range of bars including; Yates, Orange Rooms and Turtle Bay, which are a hit amongst students.

Being so close to the city centre there are tons of different places to eat, catering for all differing tastes. Some popular favourite hotspots include Mango Thai, Shrimp & Burger, Milan Italian, La Tavernetta and 7Bone Burger.

As well as the high street brands, Southampton has a range of markets around the city. Street foods, crafts and continental treats are just some of the typical stalls you may see dotted around the place.

The city has three cinemas showcasing all the latest movies, including the multi-screen at the Odeon at Leisure World and UGC at Ocean Village, just a 10 minute walk away. The Harbour Lights Picture House is an independent cinema and it’s under a 15 minute walk from your new student accommodation.

Alternatively, if you enjoy the theatre; the Mayflower Theatre is 15 minutes’ walk away and hosts shows which include ballet, panto, opera and comedy.

The Titanic disaster of 1912 had a huge impact on the people of Southampton with hundreds of people sadly losing family members. The SeaCity Museum in the city centre is a well worth a visit, and looks into the history of the ship and the crew members on board.

If you like to relax after your lectures, take a walk around Southampton Common; it’s just 10 minutes’ drive away. The Common currently includes 326 acres of woodland and loads of beautiful scenery and things to do.

If it’s art and history you enjoy, Southampton centre is bursting with it. Visit the Southampton City Art Galleryfor contemporary pieces, or the Medieval Merchant’s House built in the 13th century – well worth a visit!

For fans of professional sport, Southampton Football Club is based at Friends Provident St. Mary’s Stadium; less than a 20 minute walk away from the residence. As well as this, Hampshire County Cricket Club is based at the Rose Bowl; less than a 20 minute drive away.

Water sports are very popular as you might imagine with being right on the coast. You can experience yachting and windsurfing on the Solent, plus, watch out for the annual boat show – the biggest in Europe!

If you’re feeling adventurous, visit the dry ski slopes at The Alpine Snowsports Centre – 10 minutes’ walk from Mercury Point. The centre caters for all types of winter sports and is a great day out for everyone.
