Walmsley Studios (previously Liberty House St John's Street) is home to just 166 students, so it really feels like a community here. Nearby City, University of London is just five minutes by foot, while the rest of the city’s universities can be reached by public transport without much hassle.
Live here and you’ll have a range of studio accommodation to choose from. All of them come with a private bathroom, kitchen facilities and a study desk. How much space you have will vary depending on which option you pick.
Leave your flat for a few hours and you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained around Walmsley Studios. Large, comfortable common areas are ideal for socialising, with foosball, pool and ping pong all free to use. Head outside when the sun is shining and you’ll be able to make the most of the weather thanks to our courtyard. Or, if you’re feeling active, spend an hour or so in the on-site gym.
Walk in any direction for 25 minutes and you’ll find lots going on, with Shoreditch, Islington and Clerkenwell all nearby. Here, you’ll have a huge choice of places to eat, drink or relax, with food from all over the world. Being just 10 minutes away from Walmsley Studios, Farringdon station is well placed to take you to all of London’s popular spots and attractions.
Social Scene
There will be a wide range of bars, pubs and nightlife on your doorstep when you stay at Walmsley Studios. Clerkenwell is home to a range of delicious restaurants and pubs, some student favourites which are within walking distance include; Jamie’s Italian, Wagamama, Kennedy’s Fish and Chips, The Crown Tavern and Sports Bar and Grill.
Leicester Square is 35 minutes away on foot, and is perfect for nightlife entertainment. Shoreditch is also a short distance away from the residence and has a range of bars, restaurants, clubs and pubs for you to choose from. Sway Bar is an awesome club about half an hour walk away from the residence, comprising of a bar, restaurant and nightclub.
Hoxton is close by as well and is a vibrant area, with lots of nightlife, bars and even art galleries.
The area of Islington has a selection of entertainment to choose from, with some of the best bars and pubs in London. Live music venue, the O2 Academy can be found here along with The Garage and Union Chapel – just 20 minutes from the residence.
What's Around
The location of Walmsley Studios means you will never be far away from the biggest attractions that central London has to offer. The Tate Modern, London Bridge, Museum of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Barbican Centre are all close by.
Parks which are close to the residence include Regent’s Park – with London Zoo, and Lincoln’s Inn Fields both short tube rides away. The Barbican Centre is a performing arts centre and hosts classical and contemporary music concerts, theatre performances and art exhibitions and is just a 20 minute walk from the accommodation.
The Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe are a thirty minute walk away or short tube journey. St Paul’s Cathedral is an iconic feature of London’s skyline and is only 20 minutes’ walk away from Walmsley Studios.
Somerset House located south side of the strand is a short 10 minute bus ride away and plays host to many art exhibitions and is home to the world famous London Fashion Week.
Further afield via tube you will find The London Eye and Westminster, where there are an array of sights to be seen.
Staying Active
Walmsley Studios benefits from having its own gym for student use, the gym is available for use 24 hours a day.
Alternatively, if you have more advanced needs, there are various leisure centres close to the residence for your convenience, including Gym Box and Fitness First at Holborn Circus and Virgin Active Islington which are a 20 minute walk away.
Regent’s Park is close by and holds various sporting activities on the green, including fun runs, football, rugby, netball, exercise classes and more.
Travel and Transport
Walmsley Studios is in a fantastic location, so you will have close transport links in and around central London.
The accommodation is just a few minutes’ walk from Farringdon station and provides direct access to other rail stations including Paddington, King’s Cross St Pancras, Liverpool Street and Aldgate. King’s Cross St Pancras offers a quick trip to Europe on the Eurostar. The underground for Farringdon provides links for the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City lines.
If you walk to Chancery Lane which is a few minutes from St John’s Street, you will be able to catch the Central line to various other places in London.
London is not all about the tube, there are also bus routes. Useful services for this area include:

Local Amenities
The area of Farringdon has a range of local amenities close and convenient for you. The nearest supermarkets are Waitrose and Tesco, located in Clerkenwell; a 2 minutes’ walk from St John’s Street.
The nearest shopping area is Angel; here you can find Chapel Market, Angel Central and Camden Passage.
There is a larger Sainsbury’s supermarket in Angel, too, as well as one just opposite Farringdon tube station.
Finally, Finsbury Library is also located a short 2 minute walk away from the residence.
Your Wellbeing
In case of an emergency, St Bartholomew’s Hospital is less than 10 minutes’ walk away. Of course, if need be in an extreme situation, you can call 999 and you will be taken by ambulance instead. We hope you never need this!
Clerkenwell is well served by doctors and dentists and is a few minutes’ walk from the residence you will find a Boots chemist, and Superdrug.
