Popular Student Areas of Glasgow

Finnieston

Finnieston is a great option for those studying at the University of Strathclyde or the University of Glasgow. Finnieston is located between the popular shopping district of Kelvingrove Park and the famous River Clyde. One of Glasgow’s main business and shopping streets, Sauchiehall Street is around the corner, which has all the amenities you could need.

The SSE Hydro and the SEC Centre are both in the area and are where many of Glasgow’s main events are held. The fact that it’s so close to the city centre means rent can be higher than other areas of the city but the location is key.

Hillhead

Hillhead is located in the fashionable West End of Glasgow. Filled with popular restaurants, pubs and bars with easy access to the main shopping districts. Hillhead is great for students of the University of Glasgow as it’s just minutes away by foot.

Rent in Hillhead is among the highest for students due to its location. However, you will enjoy minimal transport costs, fantastic amenities and a great student community in the area.

Anniesland

Anniesland is a great location for the University of Glasgow as well as the city’s West End. Slightly further out of town than some of the other areas but it has a lot going on.

Rent is cheaper which is always a bonus for university students. Anniesland is also only 15 minutes from the city centre. Students will enjoy a Morrisons and an Aldi locally and there are also some fantastic pubs and shops dotted around the area.

Partick

Not far from Hillhead lies another perfectly located area for students attending the University of Glasgow. With a myriad of supermarkets, shops and cheap restaurants, Partick is a very popular student area. Transport links are excellent for both the city centre and Universities. Rent is competitive but competition can be high.

City Centre

Right in the heart of the city this is an ever-popular area for students. Expect to pay higher rent, but you’ll have all of the true benefits of city centre living. The city centre has all of the main shops, bars, clubs, restaurants and transport links.

Denistoun

Just outside the city centre is the popular area Denistoun. Well located for students of the University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University. The area is home to a Lidl, as well as excellent shops and cafes. Due to it’s useful location and great transport links rent can be on the higher side.
